In House Diagnostics
In house diagnostics on the Texas Petawatt can be made available to
Users.
Optical/NIR
Sources:
- Probe line: 10 mJ 1057 nm or up to 3 mJ at 528 nm pulse duration 200 fs to 3 ps, chirped using in-air compressor. It can be synchronized to TC1 or TC2.
- Quantel Brilliant laser (easily transportable): ~450 mJ @ 1064 nm, ~185 mJ @ 532 nm, 6 ns pulse duration, 4.5 mm diameter.
- CrystaLaser 1064-100 CW alignment laser: 1064 nm, 100 mW.
- Various HeNe and diode alignment lasers.
Diagnostics:
- Del Mar Photonics Rincon 3rd order Scanning Autocorrelator for contrast measurements down to 10^-10.
- SID4 GE wavefront sensor: 160x120 phase map resolution, sensitive to 400-1100 nm wavelength, phase resolution <2 nm. Deployable to either target chamber and compatible with closed loop system. Includes R-4 cube unit to compensate for relay optics.
- Wizzler.
- Fourier domain interferometer: Self-referencing Michelson interferometer imaged to slit of high-resolution spectrometer. Designed for 1057 nm probe light.
- VISAR @ 532 nm wavelength.
- Confocal microscope for target positioning: target placement accuracy <4 µm with Mitutoyo 50X, infinite corrected, 13 mm working distance objective, with 532 nm diode laser.
- For TC1: Backscatter imaging of the target using the focusing parabola and a 10 m spherical mirror, and/or an 8 m focusing lens. Magnification ~13x. Must be requested well in advance and coordinated with use of TC2 system.
Detectors:
- Hamamatsu C7700 High Dynamic Range Streak camera with S20 photocathode: 2048x2048 resolution, sensitive to 200-850 nm wavelength, temporal resolution of ~3ps, 1000:1 dynamic range.
- Stanford Computer Optics XXRapidFrame Framing camera with S25 photocathode: 780x580 resolution, sensitive to 400-900 nm wavelength, min exposure of 0.2 ns, 12-bit.
- Apogee Alta U8300 CCD: resolution: 8.3 MP, dynamic range: 5839:1, 16-bit, 99% linearity, cooled to ~-25C (SNR ~ 1500).
- Andor iDUS DU420-OE spectroscopy CCD: resolution: 1024x255 pixels 25 µm in size, sensitive to 200-1000 nm wavelength, 16-bit, cooled to ~-100C (x2).
- Andor iDUS DU490A-1.7 InGaAs spectroscopy CCD: resolution: 512 pixels 25x500 µm in size; sensitive to 0.6 to 1.7 µm wavelength, 16-bit, cooled to ~-90C.
- Horiba MicroHR Spectrometer (requires CCD): resolution: 0.1 nm with 10 µm entrance slit, 0.3 nm and with 26 µm pixel of Andor IDUS CCD, f/3.88, 1200 grooves/mm. Primarily used at 532 nm, 1200 nm blaze.
- Ocean Optics USB 4000HR Spectrometer: sensitive to 200-1000 nm wavelength.
- Ocean Optics HR2000 VIS spectrometer: sensitive to 330 - 900 nm wavelength.
- Basler Ace CCD: resolution: 1.3 MP, 12-bit, Gig-E.
- Imaging Source CCD: resolution: 0.4 MP, 8-bit, USB.
- IR viewers.
- IR cards.

X-Ray/XUV
- Scintillation + PMT X ray detectors (5) – may require refurbishment.

Ion/Neutron detection
- CR-39: Ion track detection. Facilities available for NaOH etching.
- Cu stack activation detection of protons, as an alternative to RCF. Digitized using timed image plate exposure and IP scanner.
- Radiochromic Film (RCF). Scanned using 35mm slide- or flatbed scanner.
- Thomson parabola spectrometer under construction. Utilizing image plates. External can for independent pumping of diagnostic.
- Faraday cup for ion Time of Flight.
- Calibrated plastic scintillators for neutron detection, need refurbishing (x6).
- General Electric Typhoon FLA 7000 imaging plate scanner.
Electron/positron detection
- Image plate based e+/e- spectrometer. Energy range: 3-50 MeV, 60-150 MeV at lower resolution.
